Hey, welcome to play my game Criminal 101. This is my midterm project for IGD.
Something I must say at the top
This is NOT a real story of me. Things happened in this game never happened on me. All teachers I met in high school are incredible individuals that I love and respect.
Since this is not my experience, I'm not sure how should I talk about this game here. I hope my words and this game doesn't offend anyone. If some of the contents offends you, that's not what I want and I apologize for that.
Control
WASD - Move
Space - Interact with doors and objects
H - Hide
U- Unhide
E - enter door/ pick up items

Background story
When I started this project, I imagined it to be a chill little game that player steal stuffs (like doctor notes, answer for test) from teachers in a middle school to benefit his/her school life. For the final result, the mechanic is pretty mush the same, but narrative changes a lot.
I kind of have the idea of making Criminal 101 since one year ago. I have the story in my mind for a long time without considering about the mechanic. Therefore when I finished the mechanic of the original idea, I realized that it fit with the mechanic I want for Criminal 101, then I shifted it.
What give me the last push of making this is that when I tried to build the teacher office, I built it exactly the same as the teacher's office in my high school. And suddenly I recalled a memory that I almost forgot : I was once played as a girl who is sexually assaulting by her teacher in teacher's office in my friend's short film. It was the spring of 2017, we borrowed the teacher's office for a day and shot the footages. The boy who played the character of the teacher is my friend and it was all fake. But I find that I couldn't consider that as a good memory. Once I remember that, all I can think about is that when I look at the office I build.
That the last thing the push me make this. Cause if I can't forget that and let that go, imagine how hard it's going to be for someone who experienced that for real.
I know Criminal 101 could be a real story, and I know so many real stories that's similar to this. :
One of my favorite Chinese novel The first love story of FangSiQi, written by a talented writer YiHan Lin, talks about story of how FangSiQi was sexually assaulting by her Chinese teacher since she was 10. This is not story that made up by the author, but her own experience. She decided to end her life after she publish this novel...
I don't know how should I end this part and it seems like I had already drifted away from the main topic. So I will just stop here.
Reflection
The past two - three weeks has been a mess for me. The traveling , everything happens around... It was crazy. Reflecting on design and development process, I think I did a good job consider about all the situations that I couldn't expect, but there is a lot of room of improvement.
One thing I have to say is that I defiantly spend too much time on the model of YiLin. It was so out of my league at the point I started it. The process fulled with struggles. But I'm kind of proud of it. And more importantly , I know I can do better for 100 precent next time.
The coding was fine. Recently, I'm trying find a workflow for myself in terms of coding and create of a system that works for me. The structure of each level was clear at first, but as more and more bugs pop out, now the structure is blurry.
As you can see, the scope I have of criminal 101 is much larger than what I have now. What I have in this project is like a beginning of the whole story, like a chapter 0. And I think I would like to keep working on this in the future.
That's all I want to say. Enjoy the game.
Fun Fact: You may wondering why there is this jazz song on the background for game stage that doesn't really match the feeling of this game. That song is called "Go home". And that's song that every school (from primary school to high school) and shopping mall in China plays when they are about to closed .
